Rummaging
As I contribute to the eco side of things, I feel as though this practice blog deems fitting. I’ve spent all day wishing I had my air conditioning on as I rummage through boxes, containers, papers and the other day to day stuff that piles up. I find that it’s sad that I’m breaking a sweat as I fiddle around my desk or just by walking from one room to another. I keep thinking to myself that there is a magic little white box on my wall and all I have to do it just go press the button and sweet relief would soon subside the continuous drip from my forehead.
But, then I think that in another month I get the evil envelope that contains the price for my magical day. The blasted bill that carries with it many ulcers in my stomach. So, would it be worth it to coginitive think my way through the humid day and go to my happy place to convince my brain that I’m not dripping sweat? At this time and this economy, yes. I find reasons to go to my basement or walk into a store for a brief respit.
I just finished the Poisonwood Bible. A great book that has so many amazing points that I can’t even fathom. In the beginning of the book an entire family pick up their lives in the States to head off to Africa. It is a story that makes you think about the things that are of importance and those that are not. In Africa, the things that you realize on a daily basis are those of survival. You are there to sustain. In the states, we rely on magic buttons, keys that start the engines, pumps that deliver the liquid to get us from place to place, stores to keeps fully stocked so that we don’t have to think of the future, anti-bacterial cleanser to keep us overly clean….and so many envy us. True, we do pay for our magical properties, but do we even begin to see the damage that may be caused from the simple flick of a switch?
