what a week!
Are we all ready for this election to be over? Are we ready for the domination of others views to take a step back and give us some breathing room? Are we ready to look at our 401Ks and let out that jagged breath?
This has been quite a week for misgivings and inconclusions. I’m amazed at how the media has jumped to the ready and instilled that fear a bit more. Just by talking about things makes my mind swim. Do I do something or do I wait? Do I listen to what others are saying? Do I really want to know what is going on besides what is in my blessed little bubble?
I am trying like everyone else to not panic, but how does that seem reasonable? With this upcoming election I’m recieving quite a bit of environmental news from various organizations that want my vote (and money) for support in their upcoming cause. As I peruse this literature, I take to discussions with my father who has done quite a bit of research in all of these matters. What boggles my mind that all this paperwork that I have been recieving, which is not printed on PCR paper or soy ink, my father has been gather opposing views on the same subjects. It’s amazing that as fast as the news comes out, there is an opposite view that contradicts each point. It makes me nervous that he thinks its OK to drill up north, that the elk actually like the warmth the pipeline will provide. That the polar bears think that it’s normal to see a pipeline across the vast stretches of ice. How can I not want what the extra jobs that will only take over the land property that is the size of LAX airport and that there will be minimal environmental impact drilling? I wonder how I can live my mission and think about going to Honduras to put in an organic coffee farm for a co-op of farmers and then consider thinking about the economic repercussions of a simple vote one way or another. We have choices every day that will cause a trickle effect.
We are so bogged down with thoughts such as these. Your thoughts may not even be comparable to what I am thinking, but we are all dealing with our own issues. From an economic scale, financial perdictions, fears and hauntings invade our thoughts of the upcoming future. There are three main issues we, on a global scale, look as being topics we need to think about. Security, economy, environment. We all want to live happy, healthy lives. Our thoughts turn to the days of our grandparents generation, where they didn’t have a choice of what they ate but where they could find food. They didn’t think about the carbon footprint, what name brand to buy or how much bigger their car or house could be. Survival was the word that started everyday and led them to sleep every night. Do I feel that we can handle the challenge? Of course, but we will walk into the future a bit more cautious than we have before. Many of us have families and loved ones to think about, not what new version of Wii or IPhone we need. We tend to be a bit more apprehensive reaching for that credit card or may look twice at the price of food we are purchasing. What many of us wish to see is a smile on someone’s face a laughter on their voice.
In this time of Halloween, we are fearful of dusk. But, All Hallow’s Eve was a time of promise, harvest and a way of blessing the future. We shall find strength to endure this, but reach out for your loved one, family member or friend. Share with them a piece of you. Strengthen your spirit and theirs, by allowing your circle to grow with love, not fear. Do not feel like they need some odd trinket that will leave you with moths in your wallet because what most people want is to get to know you more…and the best thing about that is that it’s free.
