And baby makes three…

It’s been several weeks since I’ve had a second to breathe and actually update this blog.  Ava is back to work and I’m in charge.  Since losing my job, it just seemed right to stay home with the baby.  I could actually start looking for a job and we could put him in daycare, but [...]

It’s a boy!

Silvio Dominic was born at 12:30 am Easter morning.  19 3/4 inches.  8 lbs 4 oz.  And super cute!!!  No medication and plenty of estrogen.  And born in the tub.  Who’d a thunk it!!  Saturday afternoon, we met her parents for dinner after a nice day of hiking.  On the way home, she said she [...]

Twittering

“Last night I played a blank tape at full blast.  The mime next door went nuts.”
It’s all about perspective…isn’t it?  This past week I signed up for Twitter for the baby updates.  I might already have my own personal Twitter account and I might follow a famous bike rider/cancer survivor, but for this blog let’s [...]

Open Letter to Hillcrest Hospital

Dear Hillcrest Hospital;
My expecting partner Ava and I are patients of one of your OB GYN/Midwife practices at Hillcrest and this past Saturday we toured your hospital.  We are at week 34, so we thought we should at least find the entrance to Labor/Delivery and see the delivery rooms.  Unfortunately, we did not preregister, but it appeared [...]

8 weeks and counting

At week 30, the baby is approximate18 inches long and weights between 3 to 4 pounds. S/he is able to use all five of her senses, hearing sounds and seeing bright lights in her Ava’s environment, and tasting, touching, and even smelling the amniotic fluid surrounding her. And their toenails have grown and are completely [...]

NYC and Contractions

This past weekend, Ava and I flew to NYC for a nice 4 night/5 day trip.  Our originally intention was to watch my nephew, Jonny, show at the Westminster Dog show.  We decided to turn it into a longer trip, since this will be our last vacation till after the baby is born.  So, we [...]

Lesbian Baby Showers

This past week, Ava and I finalized our baby registration list.  We are officially registered at Target and BabiesRUs.  It was a pretty big ordeal, since Ava had to cross reference every suggested item with ConsumerReports and The Baby Bargain book.  Two essential tools in Ava’s shopping tool box.  We also validated the list with [...]

Possibilities

December 31st, I started Friday’s blog with all the hopes and dreams of writing about the end of 2008 and the possibilities of 2009.  Around 9:30pm, I received a call from Ava.  She had a flat tire and her cell phone was on its last bar.  And the charger is in my car.  Of all [...]

Exit Strategy

Last Sunday, Ava and I went to our first Bradley Method Class.  The Bradley Method is a birthing class that works off the mother’s breathing and positioning to help have a natural birth.  Ava is really determined to go natural.  And it makes sense for a number of reasons:  there are too many cesarean births [...]

Are you that person?

It just takes one person. One person to raise their hand, one person to refuse to give up their seat, one person to stand up for what they believe in. One person to say this is my partner, this is my lover, my significant other…rather than my friend or my roommate. It takes one person [...]

Isabella

Babies babies babies. I am a soon to be stay-at-home Mom. My partner Ava/I are expecting our first baby in April. I was in the banking industry for 15 years. My job was eliminated due to the current economic conditions and now I am finding my way as an author, a computer programmer and a co-parent in a lesbian relationship. Wish me luck!!!
